U.S. and bronze medal match set for revenge match
The Korean National Team won its final game of the World Youth Baseball Championship Super Round to claim a share of the gold medal.
In the final game of the Super Round at the 31st World Junior Baseball Championship, the Korean National Team defeated the Netherlands 3-1 on Monday at the Tianmu Baseball Stadium in Taipei, Taiwan, to advance to the bronze medal game.
In the top of the first inning, Korea scored two runs on RBI singles by Park Ji-hwan (Se AD) and Cho Hyun-min (Chungam Go). In the bottom of the third, Cho Hyun-min doubled to right field to bring home Yeo Dong-gun (Seoul Go) for a 3-0 lead.
The national team gave up a run in the top of the fourth, but the pitching staff held the next five to seven innings scoreless. Senior Yuk Sun-yeop (Jang Chung-go) pitched three and two-thirds innings of one-run ball and sophomore Park Gun-woo (Chungam-go) pitched two innings of four-strikeout relief to pick up his second win. Ace Kim Taek-yeon (Incheon High School) and right-hander Jeon Mir (Gyeongbuk High School) closed out the game.
With the win, Korea improved to 2-3 in the Super Round, tied with the United States and Puerto Rico, but the final ranking was determined by the WBSC’s Team Quailty Balance (TQB). TQB is calculated as (runs scored ÷ offensive innings) – (runs allowed ÷ defensive innings). This resulted in the United States placing third, South Korea fourth, and Puerto Rico fifth.
The team will face the United States at the same venue on Tuesday. A win over the United States would give the team the medal they missed out on last year. However, the fact that they’ve made it this far is something to be applauded, as the team has grown weary of the WBSC’s unorthodox approach to competition.먹튀검증
Capitalizing on their home field advantage, Chinese Taipei continued their ‘meaningless’ unbeaten streak in the Super Round by beating Japan. Chinese Taipei and Japan will play for the gold medal at the same venue.
