Tottenham suffered an upset loss to Barcelona (Spain) in their final preseason game. The defense collapsed in the final minutes of the game. Son Heung-min and Harry Kane did not play side by side.
Tottenham lost 2-4 in a friendly match against Barcelona in the Tropeo Joan Gamper at the Estadi Olimpique i Camp Nou in Barcelona, Spain, on Sept. 9 at 3 a.m. ET. The match was a friendly before the start of the Spanish Primera Liga, and Gampere is the founder of Barcelona.
Son Heung-min was named to the substitutes’ bench but didn’t take the field, while Kane was left out altogether. Having already played a friendly at home against Shakhtar Donetsk (Ukraine) three days earlier, there was a certain amount of rotation in the squad for this match, with Son and Kane not taking the field.
With today’s match concluding their preseason friendlies, Tottenham will now open their 2023-24 English Premier League (EPL) campaign against Brentford at the GTEK Community Stadium in Brentford, England, on Sept. 13 at 10 p.m. ET.
Tottenham lined up in a 4-2-3-1 with Ivan Perisic, Giovanni Lo Celso, and Manor Solomon up front. Yves Bissouma and Oliver Skipp lined up in midfield, while Sergio Reguilon, Davinson Sanchez, Eric Dier, and Pedro Foro lined up in defense. In goal was Guglielmo Vicario. On the bench were Son Heung-min, Ben Davies, and Emerson.
The first goal came in the third minute. Robert Lewandowski rattled the Tottenham net with a left-footed shot from the edge of the box off a pass from Hafinha. Stung by the blow, Spurs responded in the 15th minute with a shot from the edge of the box, but it didn’t come to fruition. Lewandowski, Pedro Foro, and others exchanged shots from the rest of the half.
Tottenham finally broke through. In the 24th minute, after Lo Celso’s shot hit the post, Skip finished with his right foot to equalize. With momentum on their side, Spurs took the lead in the 36th minute when Perisic’s cross was headed home by Skip.
From there, Spurs seemed to hold on to their one-goal lead as they fended off a barrage of Barcelona attacks. In the second half, a number of younger players came on to gain experience, including Alfie Devine, Jed Spence, and Dane Scarlett.
The Tottenham defense, however, could not hold up in the closing stages of the game. In the 36th minute of the second half, on a counterattack, Ferran Torres rattled the Tottenham net off a pass from Yamal. The momentum had shifted dramatically. Ansu Fathi scored in the 45th minute from a Torres pass and Abdel Ezzaljouli three minutes later in stoppage time to put the game out of reach. In the end, the game ended in a 2-4 defeat for Spurs, who couldn’t hold on in the final 10 minutes.카지노
