The Doosan Bears won 7-4 against the KT Wiz in the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League on Friday at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul.
Doosan was on the verge of a third consecutive loss when KT, which had won a season-high seven games in a row the day before, dropped to third place.
The fateful battle for third place took place at Jamsil Ball. Facing the prospect of falling as low as fifth place, Doosan’s 90 duo of Jeong Soo-bin and Heo Kyung-min harassed ace Benjamin from the start, leading the way to victory.
Jung went 5-for-5 with a home run, one RBI and a run scored, and Heo went 4-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
After leading off the bottom of the first inning with a double, Jung Soo-bin came home on Kim Jae-ho’s RBI double. Rojas followed with a single and a throwing error to make it 3-0.

After a shaky start that included a number of walks and errors, KT starter Benjamin gave up a run on a wild pitch in the fourth inning to Heo Kyung-min and was unable to take the mound in the fifth.
Doosan, which snapped KT’s seven-game winning streak with strong starting baseball, added a two-run homer by Yang Seok-hwan in the fifth inning to end the losing streak.
After missing out on a home run, Jung said after the game, “There’s not much of a gap between third and mid-table right now. That’s why I think it’s just a day-to-day competition. We lost yesterday and lost third place, but if we win another match, we can move up quickly. If we do our best in each game, the results will follow,” he said, adding that he was confident of a good performance due to the team’s united atmosphere.
On Saturday, Doosan and KT will look to win the final game of their three-game weekend series with Kwak Bin and Ko Young-pyo looking for their 10th win,
